Y Striders is a fitness club for everyone, from absolute
beginners to the very fit. The club encourages and promotes health and
fitness through regular exercise, in a friendly non competitive
environment.
Nowadays, people remain active in the workforce for
longer, and have a greater expectation of good health. The benefits to bone
density, cholesterol levels, heart rate, lung capacity and muscle build up
through regular exercise, are well documented.
Y Striders aims to encourage individuals to take
responsibility for their exercise habits, to achieve a healthy lifestyle by
enhancing their self esteem and fitness. With this comes
a sense of well being and a better ability to cope with the fatigue and the
stress of a busy lifestyle.
The programme is
particularly suited to men and women who:

are wanting to get back into shape
·
are not habitual exercisers
·
have never exercised before
·
may be recovering from an illness or surgery
·
exercise regularly but would like company on
a run or walk
- have
a goal to achieve fitness and health
BACKGROUND
Y Striders started in 1995 by a group of men and women
who walked, jogged and ran together. With the assistance of Sports Medicine
Australia,
a comprehensive programme was established which would enable members to
increase their fitness levels without stress or injury.
CLUB STRUCTURE
Y Striders is an Incorporated Club which is run by a
committee elected within the guidelines of a constitution
Executive Committee - consists of The President,
Treasurer, Secretary and Captain
Sub Committees - are elected for specific purpose. For
example: Fitness, Social, Promotions, Advertising, Fundraising, Sponsorship
and Wardrobe
THE MEMBERS
Y Striders age group ranges from teens to over 70 years of age with the largest proportion
being in the 45 to 60 region. Each person is encouraged to exercise within
their own capabilities and to set goals for their own personal
satisfaction.
All new club numbers must satisfactorily complete the
field introduction period prior to joining the road group activities
FACILITIES
Y Striders meet at
Troy
Park in Burke
Drive, Attadale and use the club
rooms and oval.
There are eight different road routes to add variety to
the exercise program, and each is 10kms long. Each route travels through
Attadale, Applecross, Bicton, Alfred Cove and Booragoon
SOCIAL
Y Striders has many social agendas throughout the year,
including an active participation in many of the major Fun Runs such as the
"City to Surf" and "Bridges". Other
activities include bush walks, breakfasts, winery tours, theatre, open club
days and many more.
SESSION TIMES
There are 7 sessions per week and members are encouraged
to attend at least 3 a week. Each session lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
